Hop on. Hop off. The anxious energy always feels like deja vu, but this time it seemed a bit different. New notebook in bag, new task at hand, and new confidence in check!  I finally had a real purpose at fashion week this season as arm-candy to Teen Vogue editor-at-large Andrew Bevan, as well as host of the mag’s Fashions Night Out party. I was more than ready!

You can check out the whole adventure in the photo gallery.

My Dream Tailcoat

Shenae Grime's Custom Tailcoat

Since my 21st birthday blowout fell a week before all hallows eve, I felt I should get everyone in the spirit and encourage all of my partygoers to wear costumes. It was a madhouse, so it seemed appropriate.

For my outfit, I decided to go with a ringmaster theme and take the reigns, or riding crop in this case, into my own hands.  Of course, this was mainly an excuse to indulge in a custom tailored tailcoat I’d dreamt of and searched for since I was a wee shopper.

Ever since I saw my British stepdad wear his to a wedding when I was eleven, I knew I needed to have my own one day, but the task of finding a man’s tailcoat to fit a 5’2 narrow, female frame proved impossible for me.  Cue local L.A. suit designer Jonathan Behr to the rescue!  With his patient ear and tailoring expertise, I was able to finally bring my vision to fruition for the big night. I couldn’t have been happier with the result!

What do you guys think?

21st Birthday Bash at Beacher’s Madhouse

Ladies and gentlemen… well, probably mostly ladies… I’m finally the big 2-1 and I must say, man, it does feel good!

Now, I’m not exactly a party girl… in fact, I’m known to most of my friends as somewhat of a grandma, but it feels good to know I can finally legally attend my friends birthdays and weekend outings…not to mention, without the stress of what blogger or paparazzi may be lurking nearby. Throwing a big birthday bash has never been my style, but I figured it only seemed appropriate to go balls out for such an event, so I reached out to the most wild and outlandish party animal known around town, Mr. Jeffrey Beacher.  Beacher and David Arquette recently partnered in creating a new theater at the Roosevelt Hotel called Beacher’s Madhouse, set to officially open this Valentine’s Day.  After hearing how eager I was for their spot to host my 21st, the boys were kind enough to open their doors well before their grand opening for mine and my castmate Jessica Stroup’s joint birthday celebration!

Since our birthdays fell only weeks before Halloween, we felt it should be highly encouraged that all guests wear any costume or eccentric get-up that tickled their fancy.  Here are some pics from the evening’s escapades as documented on my dear friend Mark Hunter’s website, A.K.A. The Cobrasnake.
