Red-Carpet Glam

Shenae Grimes NYFW Notable Collections

Watch out for the following collections to be seen on the red carpet this season!

Zac Posen: Stunning red-carpet glam as always! Inspired by debutantes and duchesses, these looks were definitely fit for a modern-day queen. And my fav little lovely, Coco Rocha, closed the show beautifully once again!
Donna Karan: Neutral tones, peekaboo paneled fabrication and asymmetrical cuts were a stunning update on fall classics. I’ll take one of everything please and thanks!
Monique Lhuillier: Breathtaking gowns as always, intricate details that fall just right in all the right places. Sure to be a red carpet favorite for this season.

Sleek and Chic

Shenae Grimes NYFW Menswear Chic

More NYFW notable collections. Theysken’s Theory played it safe but incredibly sharp, menswear-inspired tailoring and a simple palette of blacks, whites, and grey’s are always safe bets for me! Victoria Beckham’s collection was sleek, chic and utterly Mrs. Beckham… need I say more? Stay tuned for more of my favorites!

Rising Fashion Stars…

Shenae Grimes NYFW Tia Cibani Tanya Taylor

And fellow Canadians! Represent!

Tia Cibani (north African-born but raised in Canada) and Tanya Taylor are ones to watch. I seemed to have missed the boat on their debut collections, both last season for Spring 2013 but their fall collections caught my attention and I’m hooked! Tanya use of layering and textures area fall fashion lovers dream and Tia’s incredible attention to detail and structure give her RTW clothing a wearable couture feel. Keep up the incredible work ladies!

Trends to look out for:

Bold colors- It may be fall/winter but instead of sticking to classic black, designers are finding fun pop of colors to keep collections lively in the dismal weather months. Bold pants and jackets are easy ways to make a bright statement and mix and match with go-to neutrals.
Animal prints, particularly leopard- I’ve been saying for years that it should be a wardrobe staple to have at least one leopard print of every garment you own in your closet for the appropriate occasion and the season is here at last! Leopard (and other animal prints) are a new neutral so stock up quick!
Menswear (collared shirts and pants)- Thankfully this trend hasn’t gone anywhere, comfort and fashion are still co-existing so indulge! Classic collared long and short-sleeved button-ups paired with high-waisted slouchy or slimfit lowrise trousers are surefire staples to stay uber-cozy and uber-trendy all at the same time.
Collarless, boxy jackets- Think 50′s early 60′s…collarless bombers, Jackie O classics, and Balenciaga-type OG peacoats galore!
Plaid- No, I’m not talking hipster flannels, you can finally retire those for now. I’m talking Scotland invasion… plaid skirts (whist avoiding the ‘schoolgirl’ look), plaid jackets and smaller accents covering an array of garments.
Oxfords and spectators- Time to raid your grandma’s shoe collection, or maybe even your grandpa’s! I know, I never thought I’d be saying that either but old school comfort shoes are going to be strutting the runways this season.
