Rising Fashion Stars…

Shenae Grimes NYFW Tia Cibani Tanya Taylor

And fellow Canadians! Represent!

Tia Cibani (north African-born but raised in Canada) and Tanya Taylor are ones to watch. I seemed to have missed the boat on their debut collections, both last season for Spring 2013 but their fall collections caught my attention and I’m hooked! Tanya use of layering and textures area fall fashion lovers dream and Tia’s incredible attention to detail and structure give her RTW clothing a wearable couture feel. Keep up the incredible work ladies!

Trends to look out for:

Bold colors- It may be fall/winter but instead of sticking to classic black, designers are finding fun pop of colors to keep collections lively in the dismal weather months. Bold pants and jackets are easy ways to make a bright statement and mix and match with go-to neutrals.
Animal prints, particularly leopard- I’ve been saying for years that it should be a wardrobe staple to have at least one leopard print of every garment you own in your closet for the appropriate occasion and the season is here at last! Leopard (and other animal prints) are a new neutral so stock up quick!
Menswear (collared shirts and pants)- Thankfully this trend hasn’t gone anywhere, comfort and fashion are still co-existing so indulge! Classic collared long and short-sleeved button-ups paired with high-waisted slouchy or slimfit lowrise trousers are surefire staples to stay uber-cozy and uber-trendy all at the same time.
Collarless, boxy jackets- Think 50′s early 60′s…collarless bombers, Jackie O classics, and Balenciaga-type OG peacoats galore!
Plaid- No, I’m not talking hipster flannels, you can finally retire those for now. I’m talking Scotland invasion… plaid skirts (whist avoiding the ‘schoolgirl’ look), plaid jackets and smaller accents covering an array of garments.
Oxfords and spectators- Time to raid your grandma’s shoe collection, or maybe even your grandpa’s! I know, I never thought I’d be saying that either but old school comfort shoes are going to be strutting the runways this season.

So Clutch

Shenae Grimes Alexander Mcqueen Gold Marmot Fur Skull Box Clutch

It’s all about the details with this Alexander McQueen fur box clutch. My favorite part of the purse is the gold skull clasp with jewel insets, making the piece a standout. The juxtaposition of skull versus fur amplifies the edginess of the clutch altogether.

All Chained Up

Shenae Grimes Alexander McQueen Black Patent Paddock Boots

A trend I have been spotting recently is shoes with chains. Whether adorned on booties, stilettos, or peep-toe pumps, this edgy accessory is kicking up your classic black shoe. Punk meets glamorous when it comes to these Alexander McQueen’s black patent Paddock boots. These versatile boots not only make a statement but they also give you major street cred.

Double the Fun!

Shenae Grimes Gold Snakeskin printed Jermone Dreyfuss

You don’t need a special occasion to rock a bold bag. This gold snakeskin-printed bag pops when worn with an all-black outfit. Wear the cable chain shoulder strap during the day for a hands-free satchel or sans strap as a chic clutch for a nighttime event.

Midnight Hues…

Shenae Grimes SAG 2013 Favorite Red Carpet Looks

One of my favorite trends last night on the SAG 2013 red carpet was midnight hues. I loved the dresses worn by January Jones, Nicole Kidman, Julie Bowen, Marion Cotillard, and Kelly Osbourne. What were your favorites?

The Blazer Dress

Shenae Grimes Balmain Black Blazer Dress

Balmain’s black blazer dress is the perfect menswear-inspired look for showing off some leg. The sleek tuxedo lapel adorned with the military-style gold button closure makes this piece perfect for a night out. Top it off with just stilettos for a night with the girls or layer it with leather pants and heels for a business dinner. What do you think?
