Checkered garments in vibrant colors have been making an appearance on the runway. Yesterday’s plaid is today’s checker and Alexandre Herchovitch’s Spring 2013 line had no shortage of the boxy print. The loose fit and punchy colors gave the runway looks an 80’s feel. I may need to stock up on those colorful lace-up booties that made their way down the runway too.
Last week I went to Tracy Reese’s runway show during New York Fashion Week. I decided to go for a black on black look and contrasted feminine pieces with more masculine ones. I paired a boxy woven metallic jacket with a silky tie neck blouse and skinny leather pants. Topped off the look with with black pointy-toed pumps and classic quilted black bag. What do you guys think?
The little black dress gets an edgy makeover with this crocheted overlay sheer maxi dress. I cinched the waist in with a black belt and added pointed heels to tie in the look. I accessorized with a thick silver chain-linked necklace because I love a little hardware.
Sporty jackets and fitted skirts mixed with patterned blazers and flowy trousers made Helmut Lang’s Spring 2013 collection one of my favorites at New York Fashion Week. The aquatic theme was showcased through the pops of blues, oranges, and reds along with the suggestion of a wetsuit with plastic-esque pieces. My personal must-haves are the asymmetrical floral jackets and t-shirt dresses.
Crystal rock accessory that is. I like to wear darker colors when it comes to fashion but mix it up with accessories that contrast my look. These crystal pieces are still edgy but won’t overwhelm an outfit.
Oxfords get a makeover with these fuchsia pink Haider Ackermann babouche slippers. The back of the shoe can be adjusted to be worn underneath the foot or behind. I love the dotted paisley-esque pattern and how it is all pulled together with white cord laces and wooden heels. Because the pattern is so bold, I think pairing them with cuffed black pants and a black motorcycle jacket would complement the unique feel of what I call the luxurious older sister to the classic oxford shoe.
Fashion Week 2012 has been all about the monochromatic power suit. These three are some of the most memorable I’ve seen so far. Theyskens’ Theory white double breasted sports coat can be perfect for going from work to late night drinks while Pierre Balmain’s more feminine single-button reverse tuxedo pantsuit can be worn to a more dressier occasion. When it comes to classic black suits like the one by Billy Reid, accessories can really play a big role. I am loving suede lace-up booties in pastel colors.
